A field-journal day on Coast Boulevard in La Jolla, in the Matlahuayl State Marine Reserve. The tide is the clock. You sketch what you see. You do not take it. Not the Children's Pool, and not a pier.

Goal: eight sketches, then tell June and Leo.
Coast Boulevard, La Jolla, looking along the bluff. Houses and the sidewalk are upper left. Stairs drop to the rock shelf. Pools sit lower and flood when the tide is up. Kelp is the dark ribbons in the water on the right. Pink on the cliff is ice plant, pretty and invasive. June is the figure at the table. Leo is the smaller figure on the bench. You are the one with the notebook and the straw hat.
Loading the cove.
Sketch
Hold while the pencil is inside the ring. Let go when it drifts out.
